Willful Ignorance

The Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary have provided some revealing insights into the impenetrable ignorance of the Democrat Party. The tragedy is that they presume that the American populace is afflicted with the same problem. We all know that ignorance can be corrected but the problem is that we have an epidemic of willful ignorance.

The pillar of the overall Democrat strategy is unabashed fear mongering. President Trump is a Russian asset. Put aside the fact that Obama thought it risible that Romney thought that Russia was our biggest global threat. Trump is trying to create a monarchy or dictatorship or a deeply racist society dominated by white privilege and repression. Put aside that his policies have lifted all boats in the harbor regardless of race, religion, national origin or sexual preference. Fauxchohontas has put forth a plan to ensure that the Department of Education will be managed by an individual approved by “a young transgender person”. Note the absence of any mention of an education policy. After all they believe that the public schools are basically indoctrination centers.

At the risk of being repetitive we have to mention the worst terror threat in Warren’s leftist quiver…no not Isis, Iran or socialism… but none other than anthropogenic global climate change. One of the least qualified candidates for president since William Henry Harrison, Michael Bloomberg, wants to attack the existential threat that is climate change. He puffs up his little chest and announces that he knows the “science”. It would be surprising if he could spell the word. Bernie Sanders cannot drone on for more than 45 seconds without mentioning the existential threat of climate change. His evidence is reduced to one sentence: “The science is settled”.

Please note that the debates and the ads run by the Democrat candidates are devoid of facts. They are counting on the ignorance of the voting public. They continually use the word “existential” which suggests that the future of human existence hinges on a course correction related to the topic at hand. Bloomberg feels that the Big Gulp is an existential threat. Some 8 year old kid thinks that plastic straws are an existential threat and the woke Democrats immediately jumped into the plastic straw clown car. The left fervently believes that Trump is an existential threat.

The use of that term is an act of terrorism. St. Greta of Thunberg is reported to have been forever traumatized upon hearing that global climate change caused by human activities will mean the end of the world. Her parents, in an act of child abuse, made no effort to educate the poor lass about the subject. They chose instead to maintain a willful and impenetrable ignorance.

Recently there was an op-ed piece in a California publication (where else could this have happened!) about the parents of several young children who were paralyzed by their inability to coax their children off the proverbial ledge. Their crumb snatchers had been brainwashed at the local elementary school about the pending climate driven apocalypse. The most obvious way of dealing with the subject that never even entered their minds was education and debate about the validity of the argument that we are, in fact, doomed. The parents embraced a Thunbergian ignorance thereby sentencing their kids to an angst filled life.

Anthropogenic climate change is a fraud. Stop the abuse of the children! Try telling them the most accurate climate model in the world (located in Putin’s Russia) is predicting a long period of global cooling because of activities on the sun. Try explaining how humans impact phenomena taking place on the sun! CO2?

Perhaps driven by the limited life expectancy on earth a growing number of depressed young people are embracing the failed economic theory of socialism. Get something for nothing while you still can. It is but another example of willful ignorance. Democrat after Democrat waxes enthusiastically about the success of “socialism” in Scandinavia.

The only folks who disavow the socialism of Denmark and Sweden are the Danes and the Swedes. It appears the Swedish economy is based on, get ready for it, capitalism. A Swedish author Nima Sanandaji has written extensively on the topic. Debunking Utopia: Exposing the Myth of Nordic Socialism disposes with a number of misunderstandings about Sweden’s economic history. What you hear from the Democrat presidential debate stage is willful ignorance on steroids.

Here are some facts that will not make even a cameo appearance at the debates. The top 10% of American taxpayers “contribute” 45% of total tax revenues compared to only 27% from top earning Swedes. And speaking of equality all citizens in Sweden pay a 25% value added tax on everything they purchase, including food. The middle class pays taxes at a 60% rate and the tax on a new car is, hold on to your hat, 100% of the cost. Now you understand why so many people buzzing about Stockholm are riding bikes. Today in Stockholm it was 50 degrees and raining, hardly bike weather. Corporate taxes remain very low. The excessive taxes are used to pay for free schooling, free healthcare and other social programs which are programs embraced by the Social Democrats. Think about how the word “free” is being used.

Despite these readily available data the Democrats settle comfortably into their world of willful ignorance. Sanders and Warren want the same programs but they are reluctant to explain how the social handouts will be financed. This suggests that they have the same level of economic understanding as Boston University’s honors economic scholar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She has been relying on her two favorite economists Milton Keynes and John Maynard Friedman. If you are in Boston and see a person with a paper bag over his, her or (pick your pronoun) head they are BU alums showing their pride in AOC.

Sanandaji also identifies one other characteristic of Sweden that makes the social system work, a homogeneous society. In other words there is not much diversity. That alone should generate paroxysms of anger on the left. The long and short of it is that Sweden grew during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a strongly capitalist country and that capitalist foundation is what allows the generous social programs to exist. The Swedes agree with that argument. The Democrats remain pigheadedly ignorant of these facts.

Speaking as we are of willful ignorance…

Now that Impeachment Part I has concluded it might be a good idea to discuss the politics of Article 2, Section 4. Impeachment is always an act of political retaliation. Only the impeachment of Bill Clinton involved the commission of a crime. Andrew Johnson was accused of violating the Tenure of Office Act. This legislation was passed over Johnson’s veto specifically to ensure that Edwin M. Stanton, a Republican radical and Secretary of War, was not removed from the cabinet without congressional approval. The Act itself was blatantly political. As Johnson was a Democrat the Republican Congress wanted to limit his ability to execute his Section 2 executive powers. He avoided conviction by one vote.

President Trump was not accused of breaking any law. Therefore his impeachment was invalid. The origin draft of the Constitution included vague and subjective term “maladministration” as a ground for impeachment. Madison fought to have that language removed from the final draft arguing that it would ensure that the process would become a political steel cage match whenever the President was from one party and the House of Representatives from another. His wisdom was confirmed over the last several months.

Please watch the YouTube video of AOC attacking the concept of “raising oneself by their bootstraps”. Turns out it is physically impossible. Does BU have a degree recall program?

    What the democrats and the Main Stream Media know very well, that the republicans don’t seem to understand (maybe they’ve never read H.L.Mencken) is “you’ll never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people.” This translates to a strategic understanding that they can fool some (about 50%) of the people all of the time.
    Armed with this understanding, the democrats have long abandoned any pretense of fact based honesty, in favor of a “do what it takes” or “win at all costs” mentality.
    Most republicans have not reached this level of moral and intellectual emptiness.
    I am very concerned that in the 21st Century, fueled by ignorance of history, indoctrination by our left-controlled education system, instant gratification needs, victimhood mentality, and desire for equality of outcomes vs opportunity, that the left will soon be able to “fool most of the people, all of the time.” At that point, the great experiment that is the USA is doomed.
