Pull the ring on the back of the neck of any Democrat apparatchik and you get the cliche de jour. On immigration it is “We are a nation of immigrants.” Unless it is Rashida Tlaib who might say: “America was taken over by a horde of white, Christian invaders”. Or AOC who might say: “America was conquered by a mob of imperialist genocidal heteropatriarchal oppressors”. Jasmine Crockett sees immigrants as replacement slaves because as she “articulated”: We done pickin cotton.” Who is included in the royal “we” is unclear.
Prior to the arrival of the first “immigrants” from the East the estimated population of North America was about 5 million people. In 1800 the new population of the United States was 5.3 million which was almost entirely east of the Mississippi River. The arrival of the European immigrants/invaders/conquerors marked the arrival of progress. It was the first time the wheel would be used as a means of transportation in North America.
The history of immigration into the US and the reaction of the government thereto has been varied over the years. From 1820 to 1860 we saw the first major wave of immigration. There were no legal restrictions. During that period immigrants from Ireland accounted for about one third of all arrivals. In 1882 the US passed the first restrictions on immigration. The Chinese Exclusion Act was driven by racial motives. White workers believed that the influx of Chinese laborers was responsible for a depression of wages.
In 1892 Ellis was opened as the administrative gatekeeper to control the flow of immigrants predominantly from Europe. Between the opening of the processing center and 1954 approximately 12 million people entered the US legally. Many descendants of these “tired, poor, and huddled masses yearning to breathe free” proudly display the documentation from Ellis Island welcoming their ancestors.
Among the immigrants who entered legally in the 1800s: Andrew Carnegie, Bob Hope, Albert Einstein, Joseph Pulitzer and Nikola Tesla.
Your tax dollars at work: Over 200,000 federal workers have been laid off since Trump took office, and about 75,000 federal employees have accepted buyout plans known as “deferred resignations,” per the Office of Personnel Management. Has anyone even noticed the absence of these “workers”?
During the early 1900s there was a significant influx of people from Southern, Eastern and Central Europe which included a large number of Jewish refugees. The reaction was less than welcoming. Margaret Sanger, eugenicist and founder of Planned Parenthood, felt the Jewish immigrants were handicapped by a low intelligence. Put aside that fact the the Ashkenazi and Shephardic Jews are among the top five higher IQ groups. Sanger felt sterilization might be the answer.
In some cases the reaction to Jewish immigration was inhumane. In June 1939 Franklin Roosevelt turned away a ship with 937 Jews fleeing Nazi Germany. These would be immigrants were returned to loving ministrations of Heinrich Himmler and perished in the death camps. If there was ever a case for amnesty it the passengers on the on the ocean liner St. Louis. Today we hear arguments for amnesty for people fleeing the ravages of “global warming”.
Your tax dollars at work: The US has cut $171 million that was being directed to the nation of Columbia. The money was for Indigenous Peoples and Afro-Columbian empowerment ($60 million), an inclusive justice program ($74 million) and other worthy programs including a trans opera. What did we get in return? In 2025 leaders of a Colombian drug trafficking organization have pleaded guilty to a conspiracy to import cocaine to the United States.
From 1942 through 1964 there was a policy implemented to allow Mexican agricultural workers to enter the US temporarily because there were labor shortages during and after the Second World War. In 1954 the Eisenhower administration implemented Operation Wetback to deport Mexican immigrants who had entered the country illegally. In 1965 the US established, for the first time, numerical restrictions on immigration from our neighbors to the South.
The four years of the Biden nightmare saw an open door policy at our Southern border and the entry of between 12 and 18 million illegal immigrants…more than during the 62 years that Ellis Island was in operation. With the caterwauling that has accompanied the closing of the revolving doors in the border wall and the deportation of criminals that were here illegally you would think that protecting our borders was an act of patriarchal hegemony.
It is instructive to listen to the diversity, inclusion and equity Democrats as they describe the need for our illegal immigrants. Nancy Pelosi criticized any restrictions by asking…”Who will clean our toilets?” The Harridan Club, aka The View, is terribly worried about the supply of cheap watercress if we don’t allow Mexican agricultural workers to stream across the border. If Trump or Musk or Vance were to offer such commentary mostly peaceful riots would be the order of the day.
Your tax dollars at work: DOGE cancelled 47 contracts with a ceiling value of $87.5 million. Among the worthwhile projects terminated was $3.4 million for “aviation advisors in Kenya”. Based on the string of recent crashes and near misses at US airports that money might be better spent closer to home.
Here are a few modest proposals to address the immigration issue:
- Go back to numerical restrictions based on specific needs of the American economy.
- Strictly enforce compliance with US law and the conditions of temporary admission such as green cards, and student and work visas,
- Make it a crime for any immigrant who bypasses the legal system to secure a social security number, fail to pay all applicable taxes or vote in any Federal or state election in the US.
- Repeal the language in the 14th amendment that allows a birth in the US to be the basis for citizenship. That language was intended to ensure that slaves born in the US would be US citizens…retroactive application only.
We need to establish a system that tracks all entries into the country so the people like Elon Musk can’t sneak in under the radar…Tesla man, our favorite African-American, is the one immigration limitation that the Democrats would embrace.
We are told that Jasmine Crockett is here to save the Democratic Party. If such is the case the Democrats are the Alamo where another Crockett (no relation to the ever irrational Jasmine) failed to save the day.
This in from our Good News Department: Luigi Mangione has been charged with murder under Federal law and they are seeking the death penalty. As this depraved maniac is the heart throb of young leftists his execution should be nationally televised to deter copycats. After all a recent poll of young Democrats found that 55% believe that assassinating Donald Trump would be a good thing. Method of execution for young Luigi drawing and quartering. That will make an indelible impression.
