The odds of getting a good, near great or great President appear to be less than 1 in 5.  Those are not great odds when you are looking at electing the world’s most powerful leader.  Now that we have the two presumptive candidates there is no reason to be confident that we will be improving the historical average after the next administration passes into history.  The first casualty of this election will be the credibility of the press and the leadership of the Republican Party.  Ponder the following:

1.  A serious concern has been raised that Donald Trump should not be President because he is a narcissist.  This is risible.  Compared to the incumbent Trump is Uriah Heep.
2. Some say that Trump cannot be seriously considered because he has not yet addressed the real issues the nation is facing.  Flashback to 2008.  The US was at war in the Middle East, there was a financial crisis that had to be addressed and the annual deficit had just been given a steroid injection in the form of what turned out to be a completely ineffective “stimulus” bill.  Someone should explain to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid that the word “stimulus” means something other than stimulating their net worth.  In the face of this Obama offered us: “Hope and Change”, “We are the ones you have been waiting for”, a promise to “fundamentally change America” and some hallucinogenic fable about the redistribution of income.  There was not a single policy offered by either Obama or McCain in 2008.  From the media we got…crickets.
3. Over and over we hear that Trump does not have the experience to be President.  Based on experience as of this date Trump has the superior resume as compared to Obama to lead the country.  If only the Donald had been a community organizer or an adjunct Constitutional professor!  By which is meant the US Constitution about which the good professor had only a passing familiarity.  Obama has demonstrated a seven year learning flat line.
4. In the first Republican debate Bret Baier (the best news anchor in the American media) fired the opening salvo by asking each of the ten candidates on the stage if the would sign a pledge to support the Republican nominee when the dust settled.  Many chins were stroked and knowing nods exchanged at this clever ploy to trap Trump, not then taken seriously, into agreeing to stay with the party win or lose.  What this revealed was that the stage held nine liars and Donald Trump.
5. The second foray by the Fox team was from Megan “Hey look at me” Kelly who made a sorority girl effort to make the debate about her.  Instead of asking Trump a serious question…e.g. how will you attack the $19 trillion deficit…we got questions about tweets from years ago about women.  If she had asked a serious policy question it is possible that Trump, at that moment a political neophyte, would have been revealed as unprepared for the big time with a weak understanding of the issues that would be addressed by the next President. It was an opportunity missed and contributed to the continuing effort to paint Trump as a comic figure not to be taken seriously.  But Ms. Kelly was all over the front page.
6. The media observes in hushed tones that Trump is a boor and a lout who would be an embarrassment to the office because of his past history with women.    You might conclude that Trump would do something offensive like have a sexual relationship with a White House intern. Wait a second…hasn’t that been done before?  Change the channel quick so you can observe the sycophantic press sucking up to Hilliary who enabled her husband (without whom very few people would be aware of Peyronie’s disease) to wage a one man war on women.  Compared to Bill Clinton Trump is a selfless celibate.  Harry Reid, the Ray Bolger of the US Congress and Clinton defender, had a meltdown on the floor of the Senate about Trump’s character.

Please note that your humble servant is not a Trump supporter but it is difficult not to be sympathetic with the childish name-caller when you witness the absolute hypocrisy of the media.

Now let’s compare and contrast the coverage of that other party…

1. The choice appears to be between corruption and senility.  With Biden warming up in the bullpen one can assume that if you were born after 1947 you have no chance to get the nomination in the party of Wilson, slavery, FPR, Jim Crow, LBJ and segregation.  You must predate the Brown v. Board of Education decision.  Has any media figure made this observation?
2. Hilliary may be the weakest candidate since she played herself in a 2008 run for the nomination at which time she proved to be a disaster losing to a totally unqualified first term Senator.  And now she is trying to play indictment dodge ball as her aides walk out of FBI interviews.  Santa Sanders has won more state primaries than the cuckquean former first lady.  It has been documented that if her lips are moving she is most likely shaving the truth.  Hilliary’s mendacity is ignored while the media drills down on whether Ted Cruz’ father was on the grassy knoll in Dallas.  What Hilliary has going for her is a quiescent media that has all the sensory perception of Helen Keller.
3. Perhaps there is no fodder for the media to work with…  Unless you review the catalogue of candidate Clinton’s tango with dishonesty.  She was fired by the team that was investigating Nixon’s high-jinx in the 1970’s allegedly because she confected some evidence against  a sitting President.  While her husband was the sitting attorney-general of Arkansas she “invested” $1000 with a fabled commodities trader who, as it turned out, made David Copperfield look like a piker by delivering back to Hilliary a cool $100,000 in less than a year.  A fishes and loaves story.  When the Clinton’s were turning the White House into a trailer park a man who was hired by the first lady was found to have received between 700 and 900 raw data FBI files.  This violated a number of laws. And if you believe in coincidence then this is your power ball winning moment…every one of those files related to Republican politicians, state and Federal.  The man was Craig Livingstone and he was hung out to  dry by Hilliary who professed not to know him.  The media turned a blind eye to this bit of legal chicanery.
4. We now have the private Clinton server loaded with classified and secret government documents.  If you polled the primary voters who pulled the lever for this woman we can assume that less than 10% of them have even heard of the email contretemps.  The cherry on the corruption sundae is the Clinton Foundation which was the subject of a very good book by Peter Schweitzer entitled “Clinton Cash”.  It has been made into a movie which was released this week…Dinesh D’Souza tried this play in 2012 and ended up being arrested.  The Clinton Foundation, by the way, has one of the lowest payout levels of any “charitable” organization.  Imagine a gigantic washing machine with cash being shoveled into it.   No time to check this as the media is crawling all over Trump University.

Yet with the deck stacked by the media suddenly Mr. Trump is tied with Hilliary in several key states and is actually ahead in Ohio.  Hang on to your hat 2016 will be a wild ride!
