A reader of this blog suggested that there was a continuing tone of pessimism to the posts that suggested a bleak future for the US. There was a very gentle suggestion that more time should be dedicated to pointing out the positive aspects of the historic election of Donald Trump, what he promised he would do and what he has done in the first five weeks of his administration. A great idea but we need to set the table.
There was an interview recently with a young woman who is a member of BAMN…By Any Means Necessary. This is the group that denied Milo Yiannopoulos his First Amendment rights at the University of California Berkeley. She dedicated the bulk of her rambling discourse to the argument that the Berkeley crowd that silenced Yiannopoulos was justified because Mr. Yiannopoulos was a stalking horse for…lynching and genocide. She even accused him of being homophobic despite his being openly gay. She looped the list of pending horrors that he represented several times because she was relying on the Pavlovian scare tactics of the left. Lynching? The last lynching conducted by Democrat foot soldiers had to have taken place 50 years ago.
Somewhere Betsy Devos must be weeping because this benighted woman is the poster child for the failure of the Department of Education and public education in America. The membership of BAMN is a testament to inflexible ignorance and hatred that is triggered by Trump Derangement Syndrome. Lynching? Genocide? How about Ebola and AIDS?
The very next night another intellectual pygmy associated with some group that wants to say No to Fascism did a similar rant with recurring references to Hitler. Years ago in the days of radio broadcasts of baseball games the venerable Red Barber felt that he should remind his listeners of the score of the game every three minutes. To ensure he would not forget he kept an egg-timer in the booth as a reminder of this self-imposed obligation. The anti-fascist had a similar goal with respect to the use of the word Hitler only she was on a 15 second cycle. One must assume that she is relying on the ignorance of her acolytes who think that Hitler was a fascist rather than a Nazi (i.e. National SOCIALIST). She kept telling the world that Trump was following “Hitler’s playbook” which must be a reference to Mein Kampf. No doubt some snowflake residing in Mom’s basement will announce breathlessly that he has discovered that in 1958 Trump took Mein Kampf out of the public library thereby proving the direct connection to Der Fuehrer.
So how does Trump respond to this tsunami of idiocy…
Trump has an immunity to media criticism and it drives them nuts. The idea that he conspired with Putin to win the election is genuinely tin foil hat material. It serves to keep the conspiracy theorists and Meryl Streep discombobulated so it does serve a purpose. Not to mention the comic relief provided to sensible folks.
There was a constant refrain that Trump was not a “politician” and, as such, is not qualified to be President. A politician is defined as someone “experienced in the art or science of government”. Art of government! Science of government! Say what! Hopefully you have now regained your composure so we can analyze this definition. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Maxine Waters are “politicians” which would suggest that the definition is 180 degrees out of phase. Perhaps if Trump has run as a liar, scam artist and plunderer of the treasury he would have appeared more qualified. Sadly for the political class President Trump has hit the ground running…and delivering on his campaign promises. This explains the shock wave rocking Washington. The last President to deliver on his promises was Ronald Reagan who was reviled and slandered by the crowd inside the beltway. Before that you have to go back to James K. Polk to find a President who delivered on what he promised to the voters.
As promised President Trump is air brushing Obama out of the history books further incurring the wrath of the media and the disloyal opposition. Obama is beginning to look like Marty McFly’s family in Back to the Future…slowly disappearing from the photograph because he is altering history. Executive Orders are being issued undoing the unconstitutional actions of Obama and soon Obamacare will be a thing of the past. Delicious!
There was some question during the campaign regarding Trump’s conservative bona fides. He is clearly not a movement conservative in the tradition of William F. Buckley. In fact George Will remains to this day a never Trumper. Yet many of his early accomplishments are consistent with conservative principles.
He has nominated Neil Gorsuch to fill the vacancy of the late, great Antonin Scalia. A brilliant choice and a solid conservative who may actually have read the Constitution distinguishing him from Ruth Bader Ginsburg, among others.
He has proposed a budget that will actually cut spending for a number of Federal agencies, including the EPA. These are not cuts in projected spending increases but rather an application of the mathematical principle called subtraction…spending fewer dollars than the preceding year. Coolidge would be proud of him. And based on the cacophonous caterwauling from the snowflakes the cuts are real and will impact the social engineering by the bureaucrats. On top of this Scott Pruitt, the new EPA Secretary, has made it clear that going forward only peer reviewed science will be used by the EPA…good-bye man made global climate change. 400 cases of play doh have been delivered to the Agency for bureaucratic therapy.
The most important action to date involves a return to Federalism. The purpose of the Constitution was to minimize the possibility that power will move from the local and state levels to a centralized government. Following the ratification of the Constitution in 1789 there was a prolonged struggle between the Federalists (Washington, Hamilton and John Marshall) and the anti-Federalists (Jefferson, Madison and Patrick Henry). Every political action was measured by the impact of that action on the relationship between the states and the Federal government. In the early years America was not referred to as a nation (Lincoln was the first President to drive that concept) but rather the United States, each state being treated as a sovereign entity. The 20th century was marked by an ever accelerating accumulation of power in Washington. Our first fascist President, Franklin Ponzi Roosevelt, was the father of the federal Leviathan. Reagan, despite his conservative credentials, was barely able to slow the process down. When Gingrich became Speaker of the House in 1994 he worked tirelessly to control the growth of the administrative state. All that effort was obliterated by the eight year folly that was the Obama administration. Obamacare was the culmination of the dirigisme so beloved of the left. Federal control of health care, one sixth of the economy…unconstitutional, uneconomic and unworkable. Those three words are the summation of the Obama administration.
Imagine the disequilibration of the authoritarian left when Steve Bannon, executive admin to Satan, announced at CPAC last week that the Trump team will dismantle the “administrative state”. We are, at present, governed by an army of unelected bureaucrats toiling in the shadows of the various and sundry government agencies. These nameless faithful drones issue rules and regulations (now referred to by the lexicographers of the left as “protections”…like the protection of the snail darter from productive use of the land. Dismantling the power of the mediocrities who populate the government bureaus will stimulate employment and economic growth but the obstruction will be epic. The neo-fascists will do anything to cling to power.
This week Trump issued an Executive Order reversing the unconstitutional Order signed by Obama regarding the assignment of bathrooms in schools and other public facilities. He had the temerity to suggest that this was an issue better dealt with at the state or local level…straight up Federalism. The Founders would be proud. However the GLBTQW#PB&RX community will become unhinged because there may be some localities where the people want bathroom use to track anatomy. Try to remember the last time a President suggested that power should reside at a location outside Washington. Reagan once opined that if you don’t like what the state or local government is doing you can vote with your feet by moving to a more favorable location like Sodom and Gomorrah, aka California.
The President has even ordered a hiring freeze across the Federal government. Now if we can only get all those bureaucrats who threatened to quit if Trump was elected to carry out that threat. They will not do so because most are unemployable in the real world. Washington DC…68 square miles surrounded by reality.
Is Trump a conservative? All indications are that he is indeed a conservative in practice if not in personal philosophy.
Here is a quote that could be applied to any speech by Obama or Joe Biden…”an army of pompous phrases moving over the landscape in search of an idea”. Originally applied to another Presidential mediocrity, Warren Harding.
When was the last time you had this much fun?
