Round Up the Usual Suspects

America has always been the melting pot. We have always been welcoming and diverse. This has worked for 200 years because we encouraged assimilation. But the Democrats have, for the past 25 years, embraced Balkanization rather than assimilation. The left wants to identify and separate the American people into an array of aggrieved groups based on religion, national origin, a rapidly expanding number of “genders” and, of course, race. They have demanded tolerance of each group and inclusion in the national debate under the banner of diversity. There is one group, however, that remains outside the Democrat tent.

The left is very tolerant of LGBTQ bullying. In fact they don’t bother to provide even tangential analysis and/or criticism. When Billy Bob and his significant other Joe want to secure a cake to celebrate their nuptials they research the 10 local bakeries that bake wedding cakes. Then they select the one that is run by Christians who are morally opposed to gay marriage. When the chosen bakery declines to provide a cake the aggrieved couple goes public and does everything they can to drive the principled Christians out of business. From the media we get crickets. One wonders if they have ever tried this tactic with a bakery run by Muslims.

The Democrats also show tolerance for the shenanigans practiced by those pesky scalawags who are the foot soldiers of Antifa. They are, in fact, a low rent imitation of the Nazi brown shirts who handled political disputes for Adolf Hitler, organized book burnings and used violence to silence his critics. When Antifa brutalizes a gay reporter the media treat it as a non-event. Something about omelets and breaking eggs.

When (Some) Black Lives Matter (SBLM) chant “Pigs in a blanket, fry them like bacon” the left turns a deaf ear. When SBLM propagates falsehoods about the Michael Brown shooting with the chant “Hands up don’t shoot” the left wing media support them by reporting that Brown was the victim of “racial” violence at the hands of a white policeman. Not even Eric Holder’s Department of Justice could find facts that supported the Michael Brown myth. Ignoring the truth several Democrat candidates are resurrecting the 2014 events in Ferguson in order to inflame racial paranoia. And when police officers were assassinated in Dallas and Louisiana after SBLM chanted “what do we want, dead cops, when do we want them, now” the media refused to suggest that the protests by SBLM might have instigated the anti-police violence. Yet they are strangely silent about the killing fields of Chicago. Why?

But how tolerant is the left in reality?

The left leaning media and our colleges and universities are absolutely intolerant of conservative philosophy, teaching and thinkers. Perhaps because the term “liberal thinker” is an oxymoron.

Christians have been the subject of endless criticism for decades and they are accused of trying to impose a theocracy despite the failure to implement their diabolical plan for more than two millennia. The mere posting of the Ten Commandments or the public display of a crucifix or just a cross launches leftists into hysterical paroxysms of fear and loathing.

So where are we headed with this introduction? In the last fortnight there were three horrific acts of mass violence. Each was perpetrated by a young (ages 19, 21 and 24)) white male. The left immediately tried to tie each shooter to the dog whistles of President Trump.

The media immediately began parsing the “manifesto” excreted by the El Paso shooter. It seems that the villain of that event used the word “the” more than 50 times, the word “and” more than 30 times and the word “or” more than 15 times. Then it was breathlessly pointed out that those very words were routinely used by President Trump in his speeches thereby creating a direct causal connection between Trump’s rhetoric and the acts of a man who was clearly insane. The most troubling language, it was noted, was the use of the word “invasion” in the manifesto. It turns out that Trump used that very word in his wonderful speech in Normandy celebrating the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

But we should put aside this silly exercise by the media and try to answer the following question: What motivated these young men to slaughter innocent people?

It is preposterous to think that there has been a sudden outbreak of white supremacy among young males. These young men have been raised in an era of diversity and integration in the schools and throughout society. There must be another underlying explanation. Is it possible that these young men have become so marginalized that they feel they must get attention by committing these horrific acts?

In the 1970’s and ’80’s the feminist movement was struggling to gain traction. Activists were building the scaffolding required to support their argument that women had been victims of discrimination since time immemorial. Feminists alleged that, starting in elementary school, boys were treated more favorably than girls. This fantasy collapsed when some doubting Thomasina did an empirical study which showed that reality was exactly opposite the allegations. Christina Hoff Sommers did much to set the record straight in her excellent book The War Against Boys.

In fact women are now the majority of undergraduate students in American colleges and universities as well as law schools and medical schools. In addition, men do not perform as well academically. Male students also have to negotiate a social minefield. Dating entails a real risk for men. Spontaneous intimacy can turn into allegations of rape the morning after. And the deck is stacked against the male because the MeToo movement lives by one immutable truth…the woman MUST be believed. Ask the members of the Duke lacrosse team or the fraternity at UVa which was accused of gang rape by a writer for the Village Voice. In both cases the stories were a tissue of lies but the damage was done.

The Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation hearings became a spectacle when a woman, who may or may not have even known Kavanaugh, came forward with a fictional tale accusing the nominee of participating in gang rapes of high school girls. There was not a single witness who confirmed the alleged events. In fact, those who were identified as “witnesses” denied the entire narrative. The counterargument was simple: The woman must be believed no matter the proofs, or lack thereof. Men are bullies and rapists and no defense would be acceptable.

Young men are learning to deal with something called “InCel”…involuntary celibacy. The result is that men are socially marginalized. Educational opportunities are diminishing. After eight years of economic incompetence from Team Obama good paying manufacturing jobs were disappearing. And thanks to the disaster that is Obamacare most of the jobs “created” during Obama’s Reign of Error were part time such that an active social life was not affordable. Like the shooters in El Paso, Dayton and Gilroy, California men are increasingly likely to still be living at home well into their 20’s. The primary activity for such lonely disenchanted men is online fantasy games many involving violence and death.

In addition the youth are bombarded with fearmongering about the future. Global climate change, we are assured, will destroy the world as we know in (pick a number) years. In short, the future might look very bleak for such men. They choose to lash out at the intolerant society that has shunned them. This is a much more plausible explanation than a Trumpian dog whistle of white supremacy.

Perhaps some of that famous left wing tolerance could be applied to these young men and instead of castigation we could assimilate them. Just a thought.

A veritable truism: The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed-and hence clamorous to be led to safety-by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. HL Mencken

  1. Your final paragraph is so profound. The fear mongering from the media is very real. I used to watch CNN and it greatly affected my behaviors so much so that I enrolled my children into online school after a school shooting in Oregon. I had no idea I was being manipulated. Just last week I was in a hotel room and turned to CNN just to see how they were covering the mass shootings. The headlines were smeared with racial hate, fear and division- over and over. It scares me how no one stops it and it scares me how a lot of people believe it.

  2. Again, another spot on post! I love the “Reign of Error.” The Kavanaugh professional, political and personal slaughter was despicable! I have personally witnessed a similar case and you are so right, the women must be believed, despite all evidence pointing otherwise. Heartbreaking reality right now!

  3. Interesting connection is proposed here between liberalism and mass shootings. The factors you mentioned are certain contributors but let’s not discount the role of the social media in creating the suggested alienation. Furthermore, it also offers instant stardom for any deranged, lonely person.
