Perpetuating Ignorance

Agnotology is culturally induced ignorance. America is an agnotologists utopia. The Democrat Party relies exclusively on the perpetuation of ignorance because it would cease to exist if their voters attained any level of knowledge. The main stream media (MSM) is one of the vehicles that assist in that perpetuation. But the MSM is but a minor player in the effort. The two major engines are the American education system and the Fifth Estate, the electronic media.

The state of our schools from kindergarten through the typical four year college is abysmal. The evidence of this is obvious to all who pay attention to the public discourse. We have a member of the United States Congress who is a graduate of Yale and Virginia law school. These schools are reputed to be among the best of the best. Yet this “graduate” asked the scientists controlling the Mars rover to drive it over to where our astronauts planted the flag. Say what? We have presidential candidates who have clearly never set foot in a math class. The Department of Education should be abolished based solely on past performance.

The most intriguing data relate to the performance of inner-city schools. In Baltimore, for example, not one student is proficient in math and 90% of black male students do not read at or above grade level. In Los Angeles 51% of the students meet math test standards and only 40% meet English standards. These depressing data hold true in most large cities. One common factor is that these cities have been governed by Democrats for decades. The obvious conclusion: the Democrats fear an educated electorate. Ignorance is king!

Anyone who has had experience with the public school system in the last twenty years has seen the decline of actual education. Recently there was a nationwide student walkout to support a demand for government action to fight man-made global climate change, put aside the fact that it is a myth. This action was driven by the teacher unions and the Democrat agenda. The students were political pawns.

A number of years ago my son saw firsthand how the propaganda works. His teacher polled the class about “global warming”. Every student but one reflexively told their teacher that they believed in global warming. The one holdout was my son. The teacher announced that on Friday there would be a debate between my son and two of the teacher’s marionettes. After the debate the teacher took another poll and, to her complete surprise, eight students no longer believed in global warming. They had been exposed, for the first time, to facts that had been hidden from them.

And now the Seattle schools have concluded that math is “oppressive” and henceforth the school districts will inject “lessons of privilege, oppression and ethnic studies” into K-12 math classes. Lewis Carroll would be quite comfortable recognizing that math is the cause of “serious crimes: imperialism, dehumanization, and oppression of marginalized persons.” The mere statement of this lunacy exemplifies the ignorance of the ruling elites. Math is hard so it must be oppressive. Ignorance rules!

Several weeks ago I spoke to a group of students at our local university. The premise of my remarks was that a college education was intended to accomplish two things: address the ignorance of the students and teach them to think critically. The discussion focused on the need for students to hear arguments that conflicted with their present beliefs which, hopefully, would induce them to research the opposing viewpoints, think critically about any new information they found and then reaffirm, revise or dismiss those beliefs.

Using information from the scientific community to raise questions about the global climate change orthodoxy provoked a lively discussion. Two conclusions became clear: (1) not one student was aware of the information that was presented, and (2) the students frantically fact checking everything that was said discovered that the global climate change crowd rarely, if ever, used actual facts. I was weeping openly as the discussion wound down but the students reacted very positively to the experience. Cracks appeared in the wall of ignorance!

Pop Quiz: Who said: “Every country-side wished to have its own Ku Klux, founded in secrecy and mystery…until there at last sprung into existence a great Ku Klux Klan, an ‘Invisible Empire’ of the South, bound together in loose organization to protect the southern country from some of the ugliness hazards of a time of revolution.” Answer at the end of this post.

Enter the Fifth Estate…stage left

The latest bulwark constructed to ensure the perpetuation of ignorance is the internet…thanks again Al Gore. The entire enterprise is a race to the intellectual bottom. Increasingly younger generations get all of their information from the electronic media. The problem is that the internet seems to exclude intellectual conflict and encourages a “safe space” environment. Recently there has been much discussion of what is perceived to be censorship by Google and Facebook. The suppression of unwelcome or politically incorrect material on the electronic media platforms necessarily forces a consensus which results inevitably in group think. It throttles intellectual curiosity.

A tragic side effect of the internet is the loss of interest in reading books for the purpose of learning. Young people are glued to their phones and always have a laptop close at hand. They just don’t have time to read a good book. If you stop learning you achieve intellectual stagnation. Sadly the education system is not moving to fill this void.

Denizens of the internet are predominantly left leaning. They are at the beck and call of the Democrats. The outrageous treatment of Nicholas Sandmann is an example of the power of the internet to mobilize an electronic mob. There was no effort to understand the full story of what happened in Washington on January 18, 2019 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The ensuing maelstrom studiously ignored what actually happened. Fueled by ignorance the web doxed Sandmann and his family. The complaint against this teenager included the fact that he was attending a pro-life rally, he was white, he wore a MAGA hat and he “aggressively stood” in front of Nathan Phillips, a political provocateur.

Google is the Charon that transports you across the river Styx to the land of ignorance. The leftist gatekeepers at Google can direct users to information they want you to see and block access to conservative ideas and information. If you enter the words Trump and Nazi you might be ushered to a host of sites which paint a picture of our President standing next to Hitler at Nuremberg and draw direct comparisons between the two leaders rallies. Googles greatest ally is the ignorance of the average American. They are masters of misdirection.

For example information on climate change is totally one-sided. Any scientific information that does fit the left’s template is suppressed and ignored. We are told that polar bears are threatened…not true. We are told that it has never been warmer…not true. We are told that the seas are rising and that within a decade former President Obama’s $15 million beachfront property will be under water…sadly not true. Apocalyptic predictions of an ice free North Pole, predictions of the disappearance of ice and snow in the Himalayas and predictions of more numerous and more severe hurricanes are easily found by an internet search. The truth is MIA. The science is, we are told, settled. It is settled…man has no measurable impact on the global climate. But alas that is not what the internet will allow the people to learn.

Finding the truth about these issues requires an interest in the truth and curiosity about the science. As the myths are being taught starting in kindergarten the curiosity for contrary science is almost non-existent and is discouraged by the education establishment. As I discovered when I addressed the college group they had not been exposed to the proposition that climate change is natural and cyclical. They are products of the internet and seem comfortable with their ignorance.

It is impossible to educate people when terms like fascist, Nazi, white supremacist and racist are never correctly defined or used. They are pejorative projectiles that are fired strictly to elicit a visceral response. The young have never been exposed to the true history of the Democrat party and that history is not readily available on the internet. One of the students I interfaced with could not define the term fascist without seeking on-line guidance. The definition he read had no relationship to the truth but it was quick to identify it as “right wing” (not true) and to tie it to Hitler (he was in fact a national socialist).

The internet operates without adult supervision. The young avoid Fox news because they have been told ad nauseam that the network is the communications arm of the Nazi party. Their exclusive reliance on the internet magnifies their ignorance.

The answer to the pop quiz: Our 28th President Democrat, Progressive and racist in good standing Woodrow Wilson.

  1. “They are products of the internet and seem comfortable with their ignorance. ” I think you nailed it right there. It is easy and convenient so I now am an expert. Truth= it is censored and weighted in location.

Lol… this sweeping statement is proved wrong by the very existence and success of your blog.

    • I like your thinking but I was referring to the big dogs on the web…Facebook, google and fire fox. They are aggressively partisan and block communications they disagree with. Thanks for the comment.

      • This debate is getting interesting. I may suggest that instead of a media conspiracy against conservatives the media is simply taking a more intelligent view of the world. Thoughts?

      • I taught for more than a decade at the college level and I found that most students have no understanding or perspective on history or political philosophy. They also have a fear of having to address ideas that conflicted with what they had “learned”. Many got most of their “news” from the internet which is, unarguably, left leaning. Such students have no idea, for example, how to define “fascism”. Yet they have no problem arguing that Trump is a “fascist”. That hardly suggests a “more intelligent view of the world”. The perfect example of this is anthropogenic climate change. If you want to find the scientific counter arguments you have to engage in a rigorous search whereas people like AOC and Gavin Newsom use only one argument: The science is settled. I agree that the science is settled: man has, at best, a negligible impact on climate. The data are out there but the search engines on the internet make you search specifically for it. As most of the populace are sheeple they take what they are given and, sadly, intellectual curiosity is dead.

      • I agree with you on the point of education. I will refrain from debating climate change etc. My point was that it’s hard to buy the media conspiracy that you are proposing. Surely pundits and journalist are way more educated than the average Joe. I am merely saying that it’s more believable that the democrat way of thinking is more convincing to the media than they theory that they somehow conspire against the right. It could very well be an intellectual bias rather than political. Disagree? If you do, then please explain why would there be a political bias…

      • You are building on the proposition that the “democrat way of thinking is more convincing” which I think is incorrect. Products of our education system are reflexively left leaning. The most powerful sites deplatform, block or ban ideas that do not align with the politics of those who manage the sites. Those managers are products of that education system. Which leads to the question….if you “are more convincing” why the need to suppress conflicting ideas? Why do groups like Antifa try to block speakers they disagree with from appearing on various campuses? Wouldn’t it be better to debate publicly those with whom you disagree? I think it is because the left does not truly believe they are, in fact, more convincing. I believe that 90% of what the democrats say is not only indefensible (in a debating sense) but also requires an authoritative mindset, my way or the highway. Policy pronouncements on open immigration, free college, free medical care for all and socialism (which most democrats cannot even define) are based on emotion not reason, naked appeals to envy. It is why Ayn Rand believed that Robin Hood was the most evil man in history.

  3. Interesting analysis of the Fifth Estate, and you are correct, the political bias is self evident. What would you suggest? Regulating the electronic/ social media?
I expect that in a free market, the public will start valuing high quality, politically-unbiased journalism, Sadly, the trend is otherwise
