Who said: “It is better to fight for something than to live for nothing”.

How about: “Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.”

Answers at the end of this post.

There is an ancient Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times. It turns out that in addition to exporting to the US most of our electronics, most of our prescription medicines and most of our slave crafted footwear the good folks in Wuhan exported to America “interesting times”, aka the Chinese Red Death. Adds a new twist to free trade.

The past few weeks have provided us all with a glimpse of the best that socialism has to offer. Some Black Lives Matter has drawn a clear distinction between Black lives taken by white policeman and those lost on the killing fields of Chicago where Black lives are randomly taken by lawless fellow Blacks. Don Lemon of CNN, in one of his fruitless searches for philosophical substance, reinforced that absurd contradiction when he told an obstreperous guest that if he wanted an organization to protect the lives of poor Blacks dying in the urban war zones he should start one. Hence Some Black Lives Matter. Lemon is obviously continuing his quest to prove he is the dumbest commentator on cable news. Run Don Run!

What has become manifest since the tragic and indefensible death of George Floyd is the ignorance of most Americans with respect to the history of race relations in our country. The riots, the looting and the mindless attacks on the police have done more damage to race relations than any other events in the last 50 years. The moral preening by the so-called protestors and their cheerleaders in the media is a condemnation of our education system. We have been caught in a cataclysm of historical, political and economic ignorance. Logic and reason are among the casualties of the education system’s failures. Inexplicably no one on the left can understand that the logical conclusion of defunding the police will be lawless inner-cities and those who will get the bar tab for this idiocy will be the minority urban community that for years has been victimized by Democrat mayors and governors.

At the risk of repeating comments made in prior posts regarding our historic roots we must review some of the key points in the history of American race relations. We will ignore the 1619 Movement which is based on a fiction confected by folks who are trying to widen the racial divide we should be closing. This actual history is marked by a continuing conflict between America and the Democrat Party.

In 1820 the Democrats were defeated in their attempt to extend slavery from the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean. The Missouri Compromise was not a perfect solution but it effectively stifled the Democrat policy of extending slavery. And incidentally laid the groundwork for the Civil War.

In 1865 the Democrats were defeated and the 13th Amendment, supported by Abraham Lincoln and passed by a Republican Congress, became part of the Constitution.

The Democrats were again defeated when a Republican Congress passed and a Republican President, US Grant, signed into law the Civil Rights Act of 1875. This landmark law guaranteed African Americans equal treatment in public transportation and public accommodations and service on juries. Sadly the Democrats dedicated nearly a century to undermining the effectiveness of the law.

The Democrats were defeated in 1954 when a Supreme Court led by a Republican Chief Justice issued a unanimous decision declaring that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. That decision was enforced by Republican President Dwight Eisenhower. Eisenhower took on a number of Democrat governors who opposed the decision, some going so far as the stand in school doorways to bar the passage of young Black students who wanted only to get an education. It was a demonstration of the long-standing Democrat party policy of maintaining an ignorant and dependent voting base.

The Democrats were again defeated when Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. It should be noted that a larger percentage of Republicans in Congress voted for these legislative success stories than did Democrats. Senator Richard Russell (D) opposed both laws and boycotted the 1964 Democrat convention to protest the Congressional action. While the mindless members of Some Black Lives Matter and Fa-Antifa were tearing down a statue of Frederick Douglass the mob completely ignored the fact that a Senate office building is named after the aforementioned Richard Russell. A symptom of leftist myopia.

But vengeance is mine saith Lyndon Johnson. In 1963 92% of Black children were raised by married parents, both present in the family home. Apparently this statistic was offensive to LBJ. To deal with that troubling situation the Johnson administration designed and implemented the inaptly named “Great Society”. It has not been “Great” but it has accomplished its purpose, to wit, the destruction of the black family. The Ku Klux Klan could not have done a better job if it had written the blueprint for the program. Today about 31% of Black children are raised in homes where two parents reside. The Great Society regulations punished women who had illegitimate children and naively thought it was a good idea to have the father remain in the picture. To allow a father to stay was to forfeit government assistance. This “single parent” crisis has all but destroyed the stability of the Black inner city community and Chicago is the logical outcome. Children raised with only a single mother in their lives are more likely to become part of the criminal justice system, more likely to be dependent on welfare and more likely to fail in our education system.

The not so Great Society has ensured that the poor would remain dependent on the perceived largess of the Democrat party and the Federal government. They are now residents of a new plantation not unlike those run by Democrats in the antebellum South. As Harry Hopkins said in the FDR years: “We will spend and spend, and tax and tax, and elect and elect”. That dependence is evidenced by the structural poverty that is condemned as “institutional racism”, the residue of white privilege. It also shows the ease with which the young victims of public education can be manipulated by simple, stupid and erroneous ideas. Ivan Pavlov call your office!

The leftist protests of the last few months are, in fact, designed to alienate the Black community and sow the seeds of discontent and revolution. Blacks are constantly told they cannot succeed in the our “racist” society and that everything can be fixed by lavishing “reparations” on the Black community for past Democrat policies and practices. In short, the left is working assiduously to hold Blacks back and treat them as if they cannot succeed without the “help” of their new masters. It is discrimination disguised as social justice.

Want to have fun? Ask the next Some Black Lives Matter person you encounter to name the three Black children killed in one week in Chicago: Mekhi James (3), Sincere Gaston (1) and Lena Nunez (10). You will be rewarded with a blank stare. Three precious Black lives snuffed out because they clearly did not matter. The reaction of the media…nothing to see here, move along.

Ask that same person to explain why they still chant “Hands up, don’t shoot” which never happened. Not even the former racist Attorney General Eric Holder could find evidence to support that myth.

Ask a leftist to define the term “microaggressions” which will prove to be an exercise in futility.

Check into the following observers of our racial conflict: Dr. Carol Swain, Robert Woodward, Vince Everett Ellison, Shelby Steele and Thomas Sowell. Each of these intellectuals is dutifully ignored by the main stream media. Interestingly, ignore is the root of ignorance.

Answers to the quiz: Renowned urban renewal expert General George S. Patton and Frederick Douglass, the first Black to be invited to the White House to dine with a president…a Republican president naturally.

But “CAUTION!”, the case made in your post seems so clear, obvious and understandable, that you would think only the stupid or ignorant would support the modern day Democrat Party. Yet they continue to extol the virtues of “diversity” and “inclusion” to maintain rigid mental control of a coalition of “victims”, “special interests”, “marginalized”, “social justice warriors, (aka women ashamed of their whiteness)” and others, that approaches the 50% range of the population.
When I see the twenty or thirty something white woman on her way home from her $200 pedicure, wearing her $250 yoga pants, screaming in uncontrolled rage at the police during a “peaceful demonstration”, before getting into her $150,000 Range Rover and returning to her million plus mansion, in a gated community, and paying her h
Hispanic or black nanny her $7 per hour wage for the week, I must fight to maintain a modicum of hope, to withstand the overwhelming feeling of hopelessness for our society.
I am somewhat convinced that the constant drumbeat of the leftist media, intensified year after year, is winning!
If their is a “silent majority”, it is now past time that it woke up, and broke its silence.

P.S. I was clueless on the Quotes above. But the Frederick Douglas quote is prescient and timely. Sadly, even he is persona non grata with today’s mob.

  2. Another great lesson in … sarcasm. Good job. Of all the entertaining comments here, I declare the following as the winner:” Ivan Pavlov call your office!”
The most important observation in your blog is that this country has forfeited the education institution to the radical left AND that is the cause of all the “institutional racism” that’s being uncovered today. No wonder… the indoctrination program has trained the youngsters to see it everywhere. I saw Mr. Sowell interviewed by Mark Levin this weekend and he is in perfect alignment with your conclusions.

  10. Interesting article, but I think you are missing a key point: the BLM movement is not about Black people being killed by anyone – it’s about Black people being killed by people in a position of power. Sure, you can talk about Black on Black crime, White on Black crime, Black on White crime, or anything you like. But the key point of the BLM movement is that these police officers are supposed to be trained in de-escalation of situations, are placed in a position of authority, and STILL kill Black people at a higher rate than other races. Black people have been 28% of those killed by police since 2013, despite being only 13% of the population. And Black people killed by police are 1.3 times more likely to be unarmed than White people killed by police. The problem is that police are more likely to use unjustified force against a Black person because they see Black people as more of a threat than other races. Police are able to restrain an armed and dangerous White school shooter with clear mental health issues, but are unable to restrain an unarmed Black man without using deadly force?

BLM’s message is about the need for accountability in law enforcement as well. Derek Chauvin, the officer that killed George Floyd, had received 18 previous complaints against him before he even placed his knee on Floyd’s neck. Breonna Taylor was asleep in her home when officers barged in and shot her to death, but these officers have not been charged with murder. You know full and well that if anyone went into someone’s house without them knowing and shot the resident in their sleep, the murdered would be immediately arrested and charged. Where is this accountability with police officers?

    • Thank you for a very thoughtful response. Please note that the killing of George Floyd is indefensible and the officer that killed him should face the maximum sentence. But we must remember that the Michael Brown case is based on a fraud and that is what started the SBLM movement. Brown had just committed several crimes including assault and battery and theft. He NEVER held up his hands and said “Don’t shoot”. In fact he tried to to kill the officer with his own gun and the shooting was justified. You should read a book entitled The War on Cops by Heather MacDonald (no relation) which is a thorough examination of police shootings. In addition the Washington Post has studied shootings for many decades and they have reported that 2018 and 2019 were the two lowest years for unarmed blacks killed by the police. Can we conclude that Trump is the man who made this happen?
There is a perspective that you have failed to consider. Blacks are arrested and shot at a higher rate because the black community commits violent crimes at a rate that far exceeds their share of the population. The best example of this is the murder rate of young blacks in cities like Chicago. There is no argument that cops have any involvement in these murders. It is rather the Democrat politicians who do nothing to improve the lives of their black constituents. The Breonna Taylor shooting is an example of how the facts become muddled. The first shots were fired by her boyfriend and a cop was shot. Yes it is tragic that she was killed but is was not as neat and clean as you would have me believe. When returning fire it is hard to convict for murder. It is like the shooting in Atlanta where the individual being arrested resisted the police , stole a taser, tased one policeman and aimed the taser at the second cop and was, as a consequence, shot and killed. The DA who indicted the shooter had several months previously taken the position that a taser is a deadly weapon. Therefore the shooting was justified.
SBLM is a divisive organization that is exacerbating the racial divide by treating the murder of young blacks by fellow blacks as exempt from their mandate. That is wrong. Do not ever lose your passion but there is a long history of black suppression by the Democrat party that is the biggest cause of the problem. Prior to passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act 92% black children were raised in 2 parent households and the crime rate was much lower. The Great Society perpetrated by LBJ was designed to destroy the black family (Read Thomas Sowell and Shelby Steele) and now 31% are from single parent families. There are many studies that show this leads to failures in education, increased dependence on welfare and high rates of criminal behavior. We must fix the black family and then heal the gap between the races. If we fail to do that we fail as a nation. I look forward to your response.

  11. I appreciate your response, and I will say that you are very well-spoken in your arguments. In response to your point about the murders of young Black people in Chicago – there is no doubt that the high levels of inner-city crime should be addressed. However, it should be noted that the statistic of “Black people commit more crimes” is horribly skewed. Black people are more likely to be *charged with* and *convicted* of a crime, but this does not necessarily mean that they commit more crimes than other groups. Take, for example, the use and sale of drugs. Black people are about 2.7 times more likely to be arrested for drug related offenses compared to White people, despite using and selling drugs at the same rate as the White population.
Saying “what about Black-on-Black crime” is a tactic used in an attempt to force Black people to take personal responsibility for the systemic racial oppression (which, as you pointed out, has been perpetrated by both parties) that leads to soaring poverty and insecurity. It’s this insecurity – food insecurity, housing insecurity, job insecurity – that leads to the “Black-on-Black” crime that so many anti-BLM individuals claim to be concerned with. It takes away from the purpose of the BLM movement – to recognize the racial disparities in criminal justice with hopes to reform such a broken system.
And in response to Breonna Taylor – the cops responsible for the killings entered the wrong apartment. Yes, her boyfriend fired the first shots, but does he not have a right to “stand his ground” against unknown intruders? Obviously, neither of us were there, so whatever we may claim to know about the details of the incident will likely not include the full story. But consider this – is entering an apartment without a warrant (considering that the police were supposed to enter a different residence) and firing shots blindly (resulting in the death of a sleeping, unarmed, woman that had no relation to the crimes the police were investigating) really something that you see as dismissible? It’s very unfortunate that the cops entered the wrong apartment. Maybe if the same situation had happened in the apartment they were supposed to enter, such a shooting *might* be justifiable (not to say that the police shouldn’t have had training in handling such difficult situations). But this is unfortunately not what happened. The bottom line is, the police entered the wrong apartment and murdered an innocent woman. And nothing has changed as a result of the incident.
I do agree that there is certainly more that needs to be addressed – failures in education, dependence on welfare, etc. But the fact that the criminal justice system disproportionally affects Black individuals, specifically Black MEN, is a major contributor to the 69% (if your statistic is correct) of Black children that are raised in single-parent households, leading to the issues that you mentioned.

    • Let me just make a simple point that is important when you are discussing political issues. Mark Twain famously said that there are “lies, damned lies and statistics”. You can “prove” anything with statistics but you must be careful that you are making valid comparisons. Take for example the statement that “black people commit more crimes” which is true on some level when compared to their population in the US. Take the crime stats for 2018 (FBI numbers). Blacks comprise 12.3% of our population. In 2018 blacks committed 27% of all violent crimes, 53% of all murders and 34% of the aggravated assaults. It should therefore not be surprising that blacks are disproportionately subjects of police action. These are the data that you should be focused on and when you look at it objectively the numbers you cite are fallacious. In fact I would argue that they suggest that the police act with remarkable restraint.
You cite the drug numbers which are troubling for a host of reasons but they are not helping your argument. The hard drug world in an urban issue. Yes whites use drugs including heroin and crack cocaine but the epicenter of drug distribution and use in the inner city. The vast majority of our inner cities are controlled by the Democrat party and they have done nothing to fix the problem. The best portrayal of the problem in West Baltimore is the HBO series The Wire. I recommend it to you. I am agnostic on marijuana use but it is interesting to note that Kamala Harris, a marijuana user, incarcerated more than 1500 marijuana users when she was the SF DA. As hard drug use is an inner city scourge it is not surprising that more blacks are convicted of drug crimes. Should we ignore the pushers and let the problem get worse? Well not surprisingly the Democrats want to reduce the number of police which will only make the problem worse. Not surprisingly urban blacks overwhelmingly oppose the defunding and reduction of police in their neighborhoods. Urban blacks also want school vouchers and charter schools but no one listens to them. One of the first things Obama did was terminate a scholarship program in the District of Columbia that gave money to about 1500 blacks every year to allow those students to go to the best schools. Apparently it was bad because it was a George Bush program.
Your discussion of “black on black” crime is problematic. There is no systemic racism outside the Democrat party. Trump was in fact reducing black unemployment and increasing the real wages paid to blacks. The single most destructive act against black Americans. Please read any of Thomas Sowell’s excellent books on the topic. Apparently you agree that SBLM is setting a good example by rioting and looting high end stores and burning businesses including many minority owned businesses. The tragedy is that the rioting merely ensures that businesses will not return to the inner city thereby exacerbating the poverty issue. SBLM does more to destroy security in the inner city than any other group in the country.
Your point in the Breonna Taylor shooting is interesting. Her boyfriend was indeed within his rights to “stand his ground” but the police were equally within their rights to return fire. It is interesting to note that her boyfriend had a criminal record which the main stream media carefully hides. In fact the young man shot in Kenosha Wisconsin yesterday had a long record of violent crime’ Why did he not just surrender to the police which would have avoided the shooting. Same with the man in Atlanta and the entire video of the George Lloyd confrontation shows clearly was resisting arrest arrest and had been complaining about his inability to breath while he was sitting in the police. He also had a long criminal record which was basically concealed by the media. The editing of such videos is a major problem and Nick Sandmann was a victim of such bias. That does not justify what the police did but it puts it in context. And the police were NOT in the wrong apartment…the warrant was issued for the apartment she was in. It is small inaccuracies like that that make the situation worse.
The issue of fatherless homes in the inner city is the single biggest cause of problems faced by young blacks. There is a video of Denzel Washington that should be viewed by everyone. He had three close friends in his youth and all three of the friends ended up in prison for most of their lives. Washington explains his better life by noting that he was the only one of the four young men who had a father at home. The actual number is 72% of black children today are raised in single parent households which means such young people are more likely to end up dropping out of school, ending up on welfare and ending up in the criminal justice system. The policy the LBJ implemented punished single mothers if the father stayed in the family home or married the mother. No surprise that the problem still exists.
It is unfortunate that smart and engaged young people like you perpetuate the myths of systemic racism, white privilege and white supremacy. How do you explain that Obama was elected twice in this racist country? My favorite is “microaggressions” which of course are based on a fiction. Anything you don’t understand or like becomes a microaggression. I am 73 tears old and I have encountered maybe 2 racists in my lifetime. I have seen far more antisemitism in the US than anti-black sentiment. In fact blacks are most virulently antisemitic people in our country. The Jews should be held up as role models for overcoming bigotry.

Black people are more likely to be *charged with* and *convicted of* a crime, but this does not necessarily mean that they commit more crimes than other races. Take the example of drug use and sale. In response to your comment about Chicago: Saying “what about Black-on-Black crime” is a tactic used by anti-BLM individuals in an attempt to force Black Americans to take personal responsibility for the years of racial oppression that the Black community has faced (which, as you pointed out, was indeed perpetrated by both sides of the political spectrum). When a terrorist bombs an American city and kills innocent civilians, we never hear people say “But what about the fact that most Americans are killed by other Americans” – do we? Instead of deflecting and placing blame on Black individuals for such issues, we should take a step back and look at poverty as the driving force behind this.
Poverty is the largest indicator of whether or not a person will commit violent crimes. People living below the poverty line are two times more likely to commit a violent crime than those in high-income households, regardless of race.
In response to your comments about Breonna Taylor: the police that murdered her were in the wrong apartment. If ANYBODY in this world walked into a household and killed an innocent woman in her sleep, they would be immediately arrested and charged with murder. It doesn’t matter if her boyfriend shot first – the police shouldn’t have even been there. Maybe if the same situation had happened in the apartment the police were supposed to enter, than the shooting could *maybe* be justified (although police should be prepared for situations like this and shouldn’t blindly fire shots into a residence). It’s incredibly unfortunate that the police entered the wrong apartment. But is entering an innocent person’s apartment and shooting a sleeping woman really dismissible?
I’m also interested in hearing your thoughts on the recent shooting of Jacob Blake by police officers. Was shooting an unarmed man 7 times in the back in front of his children somehow justified?
